Yaiza (@thandaart) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Yaiza is a traditional artist based in Spain. Her main technique is watercolors and she also uses gouache, she had experience with digital painting but felt she needed a bit of “reality” on her art and went back to traditional mediums to find that sense of freedom and the natural imperfections that make the pieces so beautiful and unique.
She loves nature and gets inspired by it for the artworks, animals are in fact hands down her most painted subjects. She changes style pretty frequently usually completing a few pieces in the same sort of fashion, or series if you will, before trying something different. I don’t know how she does it, but they all look amazing!
The first image is a wonderful pack of lionesses, other than being a beautiful drawing it also reminds me a bit of the famous cave painting in the Chauvet caves (definitely look it up if you don’t know about it!). On IG she also shared a strong message of support for women encouraging mutual help just like the lionesses do when they’re on a hunt. So I feel this piece checks all the boxes for being an amazing artwork.
Second pic is her version of a “dtiys” she had to re-draw after messing up the first try. I feel her, and if it counts for something I have to say by looking at the result I would’ve never imagined this was done on a rush.. it’s spectacular! I love the “magical leaves” floating around and the fact she turned it into a realistic tiger starting from a toonish version the reference was. Now it definitely feels her own.
What do you think about Yaiza? Do you also love what’s going on here?
