Vitor Velez (@theheadlessketcher) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Vitor is an artist from Portugal now based in Poland, he is super passionate about animals and nature in general. Most of his art is in fact representing animals and since he cares a lot about them he likes to draw the ones he feels need more attention from us, the ones our society is kinda forgetting about. He believes we’re looking for “inspiration” in all these new things coming up with technology and modern life styles when we could just stop for a second and look at what nature has to offer, what’s there since probably before we were anything and hopefully will be there after we leave. It sounds like a lot of nice words until you actually look at the art and realize he’s just right, he does so well you can really see all the nouances you were looking for.
The first piece about the Cheetah is amazing, the drawing is soooo good. He uses pen with a single line creating all the intricacies (zoom in to see!) and then watercolors to complete the painting. On top of that to resemble an old travel diary he adds a great handwritten portion, like if there were notes from the traveller. Look at those footprints in detail I mean, it’s beautiful!
The second image I like a lot and I wanted to talk about the uncolored areas he often choses to purposely create which are visible here multiple times. He does so to let the viewer get two great additions to the whole experience: the first is that everyone can complete the painting his own way in mind and it ends up being a single artwork creating infinite versions of itself, the second is to let the pen part of the piece shine and get the deserved attention. A wonderful mix of techniques!
