Ulla Thynell (@ullathynell) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Ulla is an artist and illustrator from Finland, she mostly uses watercolors and ink but there’s some mixed mediums too. Some of her artworks are used in books and for 2021 she even made a calendar, you’re still in time if you like her style go check it out! (link to her shop at the end of the post)
Her art really feels entwined with a nordic flavour, from the colors to the subjects she paints. A majority of the times nature is prevalent in the form of beautiful landscapes and through animals and fantastic creatures, a joy to watch.
The first piece is just Amazing! No surprise it’s the chosen one to be the cover of “Woodlands”, an art book of her from 2018. The fading effect on the cubs, “climbing” the trees, makes them look like the inner spirit of mother nature. And please notice the moon making it through, it’s a gorgeous touch.
In the second image there’s a beautiful castle guarded by a dragon, it’s a mixed mediums piece, if you click/tap on it you get a zoomed version to look at the details. I like how she made the stones on the walls, leaving some space untouched and using the color of the paper. And the windows together with the stars brighten the scene for a magical night.
What do you think about Ulla? Do you also love what’s going on here?
