Raphael Vanhomwegen (@rvh_creations) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Raphael is a digital artist from Belgium, he mainly posts environmental scenes and has a spectacular use of colors and values that always ends up creating beautiful contrasts. The background stories of these places he paints have to be very different cause he really spaces between fantasy and futuristic worlds to realistic places, dynamic nature landscapes and crowded city views.
One thing I like to do is to look far in the back and see till which point he went deep with the details, you’ll be amazed.. sometimes I can’t even zoom anymore and there’s still some little precision lines I’d like to catch a bit better.. impressive stuff!
The first image has one of the best color palettes I’ve seen in a while. It’s not about the colors in on themselves, those are fine like many others, I think it’s more about the meaning they give to the whole scene, I find them “speaking” to me. The crazy part about this piece is it’s a speedpaint exercise, there was only one hour of work here which is really little time to come up with something on this level. Amazing!
The second pic brings us into a fantasy world and you can see what I meant before when I said about the details.. try counting the lights on the very last buildings if you can! He also shared the process video for this one which I liked a lot. There is this mixture of nature and civilization that Raphael often uses in his art and it’s a great trait, the results are always super pleasing to watch.
