Rainbow is an artist, painter and illustrator based in Hong Kong. She works both with traditional and digital mediums. While there’s no doubt she can draw and paint anything, her most beautiful works in my opinion are the cityscapes she makes with oil or watercolors.
A recurring theme on her artworks is “the night”. She uses lights to reveal the subject lost in the darkness and does it so well, highlighting a few focal points in the scene and driving your eyes and your emotions to the right spot. Just because there’s a lot of black in the background it doesn’t mean she can’t experiment with all the colors! You’ll find paintings with dominance of green, blue, violet, pink, red, orange, yellow and more!
The first image with the girl falling is so mysterious, I’m not even going to say it’s beautiful and all that because it’s too easy, let me think for a second at the feelings I get by looking at this piece. Even tho this could be a dramatic end to a story it almost looks like she let go intentionally and it’s falling down slowly. I’m not feeling it as a dangerous situation. Strange!
In the second image Rainbow in sitting in the middle of some large scale cityscapes. Whether it’s using red or blue I think she amazingly handled the challenge of painting in a dark scene, using silhouettes and dim lights as her lone weapons. My favorite is one with the skyscrapers dominating the bay!
