Marjolaine Roller (@marjolaineroller) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Marjolaine is an artist and illustrator based in Montpellier, France. Her art is particular because I find she has a natural ability in being able to emphasize the correct areas through colors and contrasts. The palettes she goes for are very cool and she’s gettnig the best out of them often working very well with lights and shadows.
Most of the times the pieces would perfectly fit in a children’s book (it’s no surprise some do!), it’s that style capable of making the subject cute, lively and memorable. When a story can be told with the same effectiveness through words and through illustrations you know the artist made an excellent work! Looking at her IG feed I get the sense there’s more than images, there’s a million stories to read about.
The first image is so sweeeet! There she is, a little Marjolaine playing with snails when she was just a kid. I loved the caption in which she said those moments playing with her sisters, rolling in the mud, discovering bugs and living free of thoughts are some of her best memories from childhood. I know it may sound weird but I too loved snails as a kid! This illustration brings me joy, I love it!
The second piece is the most beautiful mix of colors and “ideas” I’ve seen in a very long time! You’re looking at “harpy, pineapple, rainbow, guardian, iridescent” in a single illustration. She took some prompts from IG challenges put them all together and came out with this beauty, just wow. Felt guilty for using too many colors in a single artwork, but I’d say they are really enhancing the result and they help making it look exotic, I find it beautiful!
What do you think about Marjolaine? Do you also love what’s going on here?
