Kristen De Palma (@kdpletters) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Kristen is a hand lettering artist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has a passion for.. everything! as long as it’s vintage. On her IG you can find about a million different lettering works and when you’re about to end the list there’s a million more. The best part is that they’re all gorgeous and it’s hard to find two similar pieces, it’s really remarkable I’m always surprised by how many different styles she masters so well.
One thing to notice is that the lettering is always the protagonist but there’s a background too! It’s easy to miss because of the wonderful words but it’s often a masterpiece on its own.
Kristen is posing in front of her “Al Whittle Theatre” mural. I really like the choice of using gold to pair with the bright blue. The white details on the “friendship” word are also pretty cool, and overall the dark background is a winning choice cause it makes for a perfect contrast with the main colors. I enjoy everything in this mural, nice to see the big smile of the artist to complete what’s now a perfect picture!
The second image is her top 9 for 2019. The top left pic is my favorite for two reasons: first of all the whole brown tone suggested by the lettering and completed with a wooden background is really nice, and second the style of the piece almost looking like a magazine cover is great. We could actually make them three reasons, she said the recipe for success includes lots of snacks!
