Kacey Lynn (@untroubledheart) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Kacey is an artist and illustrator who likes to both paint digitally and draw traditionally, in my opinion with great success no matter the medium. From her profile I like a lot the fact that she posts quite a bit of studies, exercises, collections and so on. It really gives me the idea that art has way more than a single form, particularly because I can see beauty in all the fairies she tried once, or all the notes she left on the canvas… I see art in the 10 different poses she’s trying to train on, using the same subject, and while it’s a simple concept and it should perhaps be obvious it’s not what we’re used to see on the platform these days. We seek perfection which can only be achieved through practice, and her sharing such process is amazing, or at least that’s what I think about it. Then of course when you see one of her masterpieces you do in fact realize where all that practice took her in the end, so both sides of the coin make even more sense.
I really enjoy looking at the first pic here, I think she found a wonderful way of using a small palette of colors to paint a beautiful portrait. The lights and shadows used to define the body of the lady are wonderful, and she obtained a fantastic effect on the hair. It’s not easy, I often spend a lot of time trying to get the hair done and in the end I have to settle for what’s going on at that moment cause time is passing too fast and I can’t get them right, so definitely never underestimate what looks like a simple light reflection!
The second image of the fairies is very cool, I can see her exploring different clothes, poses, wings, hair styles… I like a lot the “crown” of the one in the middle for example, it’s unusual and a very nice touch. A detail like that one helps you recognize a new “culture” in the fairy which is part of what differenciates her figure from the one of a human woman, it’s easier to imagine her as a magical creature if you can point at some costumes you’re not used to see everyday, and it all comes out of a little wonderful detail.
