Jovy Merryl (@jovymerryl) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Jovy is an artist, author and teacher based in Singapore. Through watercolors she is very good at representing landscapes (of all kinds, with or without water), florals (which I like a lot!) and more.
Something special I noticed while scrolling down her profile are window paintings. Every now and then she’ll post a view of a single particular window she found interesting to showcase colors, environment and floral choices. These kind of paintings are surprisingly expressive and never feel repetitive. I find it interesting, and it’s also a nice way to include some nature elements in an otherwise artificial scene.
This first image of a window, for example, is so good! I like the style she used for the flowers, not precise but super expressive. The window sitting in a brownish – dark red wall is popping out thanks to the blue green outline. It’s the kind of picture that makes me think I want to find that precise place in the world to stare at the very same wall and enjoy the view.
In the second image there’s a beautiful example of a painting she used in one of her YouTube video tutorials, where she was teaching step by step how to reproduce it. It’s a lovely exercise to practice layers, depth and negative painting!
What do you think about Jovy? Do you also love what’s going on here?
