Jennee (@draa_doodles) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Jennee is a traditional artist from Toronto who loves to draw toonish caracters and has a very nice and unique style when it comes to coloring. I really love the way she choses to go for a super limited palette and gets the best out of it every time.
On IG she shares her works, some videos, products you’ll find on her Ko-Fi shop and more.. If you like genuine hand drawn characters and you’re a fan of clean lines she is the artist for you, her simple yet so beautiful figures will surely take a spot in your heart.
The first piece is one of her postcards she is doing on commission this year and it is the perfect example to show how the lines and a strict palette are often more than enough for Jennee to create something adorable. Her work on the shadows created by the leaf is impressive, I love the light on the girl’s neck and face and the strong line she chose for the dark tone to kick in. It all looks very realistic.
The second image is soooo good, I like everything I see starting from the deep dark background and getting to those magnificent fishes, passing by the lady, the hair, and all the corals. This time the “negative” effect of the color in the illustration is the key factor and produces an amazing result. I like the fact that the water is not filled completely or equally but was left with some brighter areas, it creates movement in the scene and gives power to the white protagonists.
What do you think about Jennee? Do you also love what’s going on here?
