Dolly Drori (@dollybluehound) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Dolly is an artist from Pardes Hanah, Israel. Her art is particular and she holds a style I really love and would like to be able to embrace maybe one day. The paintings focus on shapes and colors representing more or less detailed figures, usually animals.
If I wanted to see a movie with flashback scenes and those scenes could be painted by Dolly I think I would be the happiest person on the planet, and also a very satisfied one. Don’t ask me why on flashbacks, I just thought her art would be perfect for that. One thing she does spectacularly well is chosing when a shade is enough or when the subject needs more details and she always nails it putting enough of them but never too many.
The first pic is a wonderful “dtiys” challenge she went with and I love both the drawing and the coloring done here. Giving this mystic aura by using the eyes was a super cool idea. The background is also fantastic cause by how well it fits you would never guess it’s so simple, but she sure found the way to make it work. Magnificent artwork.
The second image is not only spectacular but got a bonus treatment and you can find a quick animated version on her IG feed in which the pieces move and change a little bit. The artwork gains so much by looking at the movement cause I feel like I entered the scene. To appreciate this time the high quality reached only using silhouettes, it’s not easy by any means.
What do you think about Dolly? Do you also love what’s going on here?
