Ayran Oberto (@fibodemons) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Ayran is a digital painter and concept artist from Venezuela now based in Spain. The peculiar traits of his art include a passion for dark, monstrous and stretched out portraits which he’s able to decline in various shapes. The use of unconventional color palettes makes his art stand out from the usual and creates the surreal magnetic effect that makes me want more!
Sometimes the little details make the difference, some other times the once “human” face is treated so much you could literally talk about monsters, or creatures from other worlds. Despite this the figures have the tendency to keep their “natural and realistic” feeling, like when you’re watching a movie and you know the creature isn’t real, but it looks so good it might very well be. Ayran’s artworks are captivating.
The first piece is amazing to me cause it’s the proof you don’t need to go that much distant from truly anatomically correct human proportions to create a beautiful looking creature, in this one for example the power of the textures he used both in the face and in the hair is extremely high. The liquid feeling and the colors push me into thinking this one is a “superior” living being, I don’t know why, but it’s like looking at humans’ evolved form.
The second artwork is one in which he was thinking and studying the “aggressive” perception we have in relation to shapes and lines, parts we’re used to see in one way becoming “dangerous” when carefully manipulated. Do you feel scared by the figure? If so, what’s giving you the signal you should be careful? To me it’s the combination of the eyes and the nose’s shapes. Colors matter too, of course, but I think it’s their lines. I can imagine the same face with normal ears for example, or different colors, but it keeps being “maleficent”.
