Andrea Szalay (@andreaszalay_) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Andrea is an artist from Hungary specialized in botanical illustrations and paintings. I can’t remember a picture of her works that isn’t a page of the sketchbook. Her style is gorgeous and always the same, she has perfected a way of drawing and coloring plants, flowers and fruits.
A common pattern in her art is the fact that she always includes comments, notes and interesting facts alongside the paintings. It makes for some really beautiful pages and the whole thing looks like a detailed science book. Helps the fact that she only paints the subject and a few other particulars at most and leaves the rest of the page in black and white, like a sketch / study. Absolutely love it.
In the first picture I would like you to notice how much text is included in the page (you can click or tap on the image to get a zoomed in version of it). Besides the fact that the walnuts are so realistic they almost look like a photo I think the text describing it all is an important and integral part of the artwork, plus I like her calligraphy too! Very precise and good looking.
The second image is another example of the great combination and balance she always finds between ink and color. Love the mini palette representation in the corner and also the close up vertical view to showcase the details of the flower. Amazing stuff
What do you think about Andrea? Do you also love what’s going on here?
