Alyona Ilyasova (@dzukikadzu) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Alyona is a 2D artist based in Kazan’, Russia. She primarily works digitally and shares a lot of character designs and fantasy artworks using a very particular style and an original color scheme. Most of the times the tones are shifted towards dark violet which is representing a dim and shadow-y environment.
Her way to focus on the protagonists while blurring out the back is sometimes what gets me the most, I feel she has a great sense for this kind of decisions on when to develop more and when to blur it so the viewer doesn’t lose track of the focal points. I love the textures she uses, the visible strokes and the style that connects most of her characters.
The first art is a project on a book cover which I find absolutely fantastic. The elves are very emotional and I love how they blend so nicely with the rest of the image through the hair and their flowing nature. The clothes look good and a small detail like the flowers on the lady’s ear complete the painting perfectly. Love it!
The second portrait is driving me in two very different directions and it’s intriguing. On one hand I think the figure looks frightened and the face is showing a moment of sudden realization of something bad. On the other hand I think the figure looks frightening and I’m the one realizing there’s something bad going on! What did you see when you first looked at it?
What do you think about Alyona? Do you also love what’s going on here?
