Alvaro Escobar (@alvaroescbr) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Alvaro is a Salvadoran American illustrator and concept artist based in DC. I admire his ability to mix up things, from mediums to colors, from shapes to conventions and I also like his constancy and steadiness in painting portraits while keeping up the innovation and the “art spark” in them.
He likes to distort facial structures and use unconventional colors to paint human faces, the two traits combined give life to some of the awesome potraits you’ll see here and if you too love the results you can’t miss a click to his IG profile, he’s producing a ton of art so he posts a lot. To find some of my favorites I had to scroll down through the years and I kept getting surprised!
The first image is in fact an old piece of his, but I love what I’m looking at so much I couldn’t skip it. This ink illustration on sketchbook is fantastic and I have to say I like both the idea and the lines. Now is it the perfect piece? Probably not. Did it make me feel something and think about it, did it inspire me, is it eye catching and does it hold a lot of artistic value? Hell yes! To me an illustration like this one is very inspiring, so thank you very much Alvaro for creating it and sharing it with the world, I think it’s awesome.
The second portrait is the best example of how he likes to mix up everything: there’s ink, gouache and digital coloring in the same canvas. It’s not only that because there are crazy red lines on a green face with these fancy hair, so something was shuffled up in that department too. If you zoom in you’ll notice how the neck is home for a few words. I told you surprises never end.
What do you think about Alvaro? Do you also love what’s going on here?
