Arthur Shahverdyan (@arthurshahverdyanart) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Arthur is an artist and illustrator and he paints mostly digital portraits. There are always a lot of celebrities on his artworks with a slight prevalence of female characters. One thing he does is surely to try and catch not only expressive moments and faces but also the good poses, all of which turn out to be great allies when you’re trying to paint pieces you want to stand out.
There is huge attention for details and palettes as well as for the use of lights and shadows. His choices do end up making the feed interesting and “moving” if you will, there will be very few times you’ll think you did end up in a “normal” artist’ profile, and I like it cause it makes it easy to distinguish and also harder to forget.
The first image is of course Anya that we probably all know very well now after her performance on the Queen’s Gambit and the globe she won. I’ve looked up for pictures of her to see if I could find the reference Arthur used for this piece, and when I found it I was speechless, he really did an amazing job with this painting. I like all the spots where he put light reflections, they are the key to transform a flat illustration into a beauty like this one.
Second picture is a redraw with an original twist on “The Hesitant Betrothed” by Auguste Toulmouche (1866). I spent some time looking at both and I have to say I love all the details and the precision Arthur had here, and I also like the “vampire-ish” style he decided to add, it’s well done and he found a painting where it didn’t feel forced, it looks natural!
What do you think about Arthur? Do you also love what’s going on here?
