Sadie Lew (@sadielewski) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Sadie is a Mexican-American artist and graphic designer based in Colorado. On her IG feed you’ll find many portraits, mostly digital, with a huge variety in terms of subject, colors, style of drawing and painting, technique, cultural elements, age of the model and just about everything you can think of.
Between them all I think I find her use of black and white to be precisely on point, sometimes being the only coloring technique used in the artwork some other time surprisingly being paired with colored areas. Maybe it’s exactly that mix that makes them look amazing.
The first image is gorgeous and also gives me the chance to talk about Sadie’s brushes. As all digital artist should be, she’s always looking for new and better brushes to use for her paintings.. And what’s better than getting to make your own sets? On various platforms (links below) you’ll find plenty of brushes created by her divided in “themes”, this one for example was a painting she used to try out the 25 “Classic Paints” set, but there are Pencils, Watercolors, Guache, Oils and many more to discover!
Look at this digital pencil portrait we’ve got here in the second pic! Pencil Pack and Shimmer Set for Procreate were used to make it and I think it’s extraordinary to see how well some of the details were made, like the lips for example, and how good they match with those golden “tears” flowing down. I also appreciate the choice of making the hair “disappear” like that, they balance the artwork and they help you focus on the face. Fantastic piece.
What do you think about Sadie? Do you also love what’s going on here?
I’d like to discuss today’s talent with you in the comments below!
