Alfonso Cervantes (@pon_cervantes) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Alfonso is an illustrator from Mexico and boy oh boy are his characters funny! So he mainly designs these big head little body figures doing all sorts of things and I find them all so cute and funny. To be fair he does a lot of other things too, on his website (link below) you’ll get a quick and nice view of activities like logo and brand design, packaging, publications and more.
Talking about his characters which are the first and true reason I fell in love with his art I have to say humans are not the only ones he makes, there’s animals and little monsters to play with. And to some extent I like to think the objects he draws are sometimes a sort of character too, he gives them unique shapes and colors to bring them to life, it would be a shame to consider them less important.
The first image is super cute, I feel relaxed watching at it, have you ever done that? Waiting for the waves on the seaside, feeling hands going a bit under the sand when water passes through.. I would love to have a couple starfishes like those by the sides to keep me company. The girl here looks so sweet and I would add that the detail of the hair underwater is a pretty nice touch. Crashing waves creating this bubbling foam effect is the best tho, absolutely amazing.
In the second picture there’s definitely the most smiley way of representing “Orgullo Ilustrado”, he made a bunch of different characters hanging out together in the car for the event, representing and celebrating diversities. A lot of artists gave their contribution to generate a very nice movement and a collection of gorgeous illustrations like this one!
What do you think about Alfonso? Do you also love what’s going on here?
