Marie (@mavorie) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Marie is an UI/UX Designer and illustrator based in Germany, she uses traditional and digital mediums and focuses on human figures. I’ve seen her change styles and compositions with ease, which is always something I consider difficult and a sign of strength in the artist.
I love when she fills a page with a few different pieces leaving white lines in between, it makes them look like a comic page and she usually takes the subject over the lines breaking the geometries and creating dynamic figures that sometimes even interact with each other. It’s a super cool technique and I’m always looking for a new one when I browse through her IG feed!
The first is one of the pieces I was talking about, look at how good it feels as a whole and then let’s dive into some details: I love the top right girl, which basically touches all 4 of the areas while being in a corner and not even looking like the main subject, yet the hand with the stars is pointing to the left and her legs are touching the lower rectangle. It’s an awesome figure. The girl on the left also goes out of the shape with her leg, and don’t overlook the shadow there which is basically building up two whole areas in a single one. Super cool, the rectangles building a dquare make it geometric and the figures inside break the lines and donate movement.
The watercolor mini portraits are beautiful! She used lights and shadows very well to give a great sense of three-dimensionality. A cool exercise I admire a lot, I’m practicing on human faces too lately and I know for a fact it’s not an easy task, she nailed it!
