Philip Boelter (@boelterdesignco) is my pick for today’s talent!

Philip is an artist based in San Diego, California. Inspired by botanicals and more in general by nature he creates and posts a lot of green subjects on different backgrounds, usually combining a warm tone with them. Something particular in his artworks is the choice of using plain colors and basic shapes, so he gets easy to look and relaxing paintings.
Philip is also the author of “How To Draw & Paint Botanicals + Flowers: A Step-by-Step Guide To Illustration & Gouache Painting” which basically looks like the book you really need to have if you want to start an adventure in this direction, or just get better at it!
The first image is a really nice piece where he used the big cactus as a line to connect both sides of the painting, the sunny and warm one with the marine green blue-ish and cold one. I also love the fact that he took the picture on top of a rough wooden white surface, including the colors he used in reversed positions. In the end this is the perfect example of simple shapes and plain colors producing a very good piece that doesn’t look easy at all!
The second image this time is showing how layers can build a great landscape, because twice in the picture (and more on his IG and store) he obtained a perfect result. If you analyze the works you’ll clearly see the different levels of depth he used, separating the foreground from the background very clearly. The last one has at least 5 layers to recognize!
