Maria Smirnova (@magrish) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Maria Smirnova is a watercolor artist from Russia, former electrical engineer who chose to paint full time chasing her dreams.
She mostly paints landscapes and florals and I like the fact that she decided the light is a major element of focus on her style. Lots of her paintings carry a huge attention to light, which also means shadows, reflections and so on!
I chose to show you the pic where you can see the tools she uses to paint outside, besides the painting I think it’s always fascinating to take a peek at the backstage and try to learn something that’s not related to the paper itself. I also love the view she chose to draw, cutting the house a little bit to have more space for the forest, lovely composition!
Both the other images showcase really well the fact that she mastered light in different situations and times of the day. Look at the low rays stretching the shadows on the ground or the foggy/misty atmosphere created below the city.
What do you think about Maria? Do you also love what’s going on here?
I’d like to discuss today’s talent with you in the comments below!
